Critical Metals & Minerals

to Enable a Green Future

Xcelsior provides flexible financing solutions for the producers of critical metals & minerals (“CMMs”), including miners, processors, recyclers, and manufacturers in return for the underlying physical trading rights

Our Mission

The energy transition is the global energy sector’s shift from fossil-based systems of energy production and consumption (oil, natural gas, and coal) to renewable energy sources like wind and solar, as well as lithium-ion batteries

Without an adequate supply of sustainably sourced critical metals and minerals, the energy transition and global Net Zero targets will not be met

Xcelsior is committed to supporting the energy transition and decarbonization of our global supply chains by building a leading critical metals & minerals finance platform alongside our partners

Investment Approach

At Xcelsior, we deploy flexible investment structures such as private credit, prepayments, metal streams, and royalties to secure the long-term trading rights of the underlying critical metals & minerals

We understand the complexities of the global metals & minerals supply chains and their end markets, and with our partners, we provide trading knowledge, sales, marketing and distribution, end-to-end logistics management, working capital financing, and technical expertise to our portfolio companies

Why Critical Metals & Minerals

CMMs are essential for modern technology and industry that cannot be easily substituted, are economically important, and have significant risk of their supply being disrupted

CMMs are at the nexus of the energy transition and geopolitics, as nations rapidly shift from carbon-intensive to mineral-intensive economies for a secure future

Include the well-known battery metals such as lithium, graphite, cobalt, nickel and manganese used in electric vehicles, however, they also include a range of niche metals & minerals used in energy, industrial, aerospace, technology, healthcare and defense applications, such as rare earth elements, antimony, silicon, tin, tantalum, vanadium, magnesium, gallium and niobium to name just a few

Market Size And Uses

Between 2020 and 2050 critical metals & minerals worth $6 – 10 trillion are needed to meet the demand from the energy transition(1)

Xcelsior puts best practice at the center of its investment strategy and promotes the adoption of applicable international best standards at the portfolio company level, including:

  • IFC Performance Standards on Environmental and Social Sustainability
  • OECD Due Diligence Guidance for Responsible Supply Chains of Minerals
  • Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act of 2010
  • The Modern Slavery Act and The UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights

The Company considers material ESG impacts and risks associated with the underlying operations through its due diligence process to build and implement KPIs that are linked to positive impact on the environment, local communities and the company itself. Ongoing monitoring processes enable the tracking of these KPIs and support the CMM producer in demonstrating its sustainability journey
